Ubuntu Homes is a social enterprise providing strategic housing solutions for key public sector workers in Zambia, with a special focus on the rural health sector. Our mission is driven by a dedicated and professional board of directors, composed of individuals and representatives from the Ministry of Health, SolidarMed, and independent members with backgrounds in social and housing sectors, health, finance, and economics. United by a shared passion for developing Zambia, our board ensures that we deliver sustainable and affordable housing solutions to support the health sector.
Our History
Ubuntu Homes began as a housing project in the Lusaka provinces of Rufunsa, Chongwe, and Luangwa. This initiative was implemented under SolidarMed, a Swiss non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare in Africa and funded by the Hilti Foundation. Today, Ubuntu Homes continues to expand its impact, focusing on sustainable housing solutions to support medical staff in rural areas across Zambia

Our designs include a range of environmentally sustainable housing for healthcare workers and students across the country. We seek to deepen our green designs and reduce the carbon footprint of our buildings. Where needed, we install solar powered electrical and water supplies.
Affordable
Our housing solutions range from one-bedroom apartments all the way to three-bedroomed houses, which cater for our clients’ various needs, at an affordable rental cost. We ensure that our housing rents never exceed 30% of net salary and are within 85% of the local housing market, reinforcing our pledge to affordable high-quality housing for all.
Zambian Governance
We are the only housing social enterprise in Zambia that seeks to address at scale the housing shortage in innovative ways. And our organization is a wholly Zambian company, which does not return any profits to shareholders, but puts all our surpluses back into building new houses.
